When I decided to leave my job at Nottingham Trent University in September 2023, I hoped that the weeks leading up to Christmas would be busy for my jewellery business, but I had anticipated that January and February would be somewhat calmer.

So here’s a big thank you to you for not letting that happen! I’ve been blown away by your requests to book into jewellery making experience days and have absolutely loved sharing my passion with such lovely guests! Follow my Instagram to see some of your fabulous achievements! If you fancy having a go yourself, then all the details, and booking form are on my website here.

What’s coming up?

I’ve decided to try a few different places to sell my jewellery in 2024. Stretching my wings a bit further means that I can combine continuing to see regular customers but also welcome some new ones.  I’ll keep you updated with where I’m going to be. I know that seeing jewellery in real life is really helpful when considering a purchase.  If you’re anything like me, you need to try it on, go away and think about it and then mooch about online before actually putting it in your basket!

What’s new?

Many of you have asked whether I work in gold as well as silver. The answer to this is ‘not routinely’. I have completed an occasional specific commission in gold, but I don’t use it routinely, mainly because of the upfront costs of this precious metal.  However, I have decided to have a select number of pieces plated with fairmined gold. It’s important to me that I use a plater that has the same environmentally-conscious values as myself. Fairmined gold guarantees that the gold is both traceable and has been extracted in ways that help protect the environment. The Fairmined certification also stands for support of small-scale artisan mining communities across the world. Watch out for these pieces coming soon!

What’s next?

I’m bubbling over with ideas for new teaching sessions, and I have two collections hanging around in my head and in sketch books which I can’t wait to get started on.  The first will explore an exciting new medium to me: precious metal clay. I’ve been experimenting with this fabulous material creating pieces inspired by some of the delicate plant life that has survived the garden over the winter. I hope to be able to launch this fine silver collection toward the end of March. The second collection will build on my silver lace pieces – celebrating the wider textile heritage of Nottingham. Inspired by my recent fascinating visits to Framework Knitters museum in Ruddington, I’m excited to explore a range of techniques traditionally associated with needlework.
